Crowd Pleaser Chocolate Cake

Are you still trying to decide what to make for your Christmas Party or maybe a New Years Eve gathering.  This is hands down the best chocolate cake ever!  And even though it looks kind of fancy, it is really really easy.

Ingredients for the cake:

Box of Devils Food Chocolate Cake Mix

2 cups of sour Cream

1 box of instant chocolate pudding mix (I prefer the Hershey's)

1 pkg of Semi-Sweet chocolate chips (Ghirardelli brand is amazing)

1/3 cup oil

1/2 cup water

3 eggs

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees, coat your cake pans. (can be made in Bundt, 13 x 9, but I prefer to make mine in (2) 8" round pans)

Mix all of the ingredients together with a mixer (except the chocolate chips)

After ingredients are mixed well, fold in the bag of chocolate chips.

Pour into pans and bake 34 -38 mins

Cream Cheese Icing:

Mix 2 pkgs of cream cheese and 1/2 cup butter together until creamed, add 2 cups of powdered sugar, mix well.  Add 1 tsp of vanilla.

For our Christmas Party I sliced the two rounds in half so I could layer with four . After Icing in between and all over,  I chose to garnish with cranberries, next my 10 year old son, added fresh cedar around the plate for a final touch.

If you are needing it for New Years, just add some gold sprinkles and sparkler candles.

Original Recipe found on, I just tweaked mine a little bit.

P.S. My top was also a hit...You can find it here

Happy Baking and Merry Christmas,
